Scale Specialties is most pleased to announce the forthcoming release of their next 1/300 scale aircraft offering – decals for the fighter units of several of the United States Navy’s fast carriers during WW II in the Pacific. Markings are provided for both F6F Hellcat and F4U Corsair units and offer a time period of August 1943 through August 1944 (USS YORKTOWN CV-10), March 1944 through January 1945 (USS HORNET CV-12), September 1944 through January 1945 (USS HANCOCK CV-19), May 1944 through October 1944 (USS PRINCETON CVL-23’s featuring the famed snarling Hellcat face). These early carrier markings are augmented by the later fleet carrier units assigned markings known as “G Symbols” (geometric symbols). .
G Symbols are provided for USS ESSEX CV-9 (November 1944 to September 1945 featuring Hellcats and Corsair units), USS BUNKER HILL CV-17 (March 1945 to June 1945 with Hellcats and Corsairs operating together), USS BENNINGTON CV-20 (September 1944 through June 1945 – again for both F6F’s and F4U’s).
Apart from the aircraft carriers’ individual symbol, the markings include the proper size national insignia in both blue and white format and white only for the later mono tone camouflage planes of gloss Sea Blue for each aircraft. Individual aircraft numbers for one, two or three area placement on the fuselage and/or wings.
World premier for these new offerings will take place at the HMGS-PSW Fall Campaign convention to be held on October 20, 2012 at the National Guard armory in Azusa, California. For the East Coast, the decals will be introduced at the HMGS Fall In convention 2-4 November 2012 in Lancaster, PA, shown there by I-94 Enterprises and Dave Winfree. Sheet price is $11.29
